  • Clinical Mastery - Living in a viral world - Part 1 ( 2 x 60 minute sessions) - 2022

The mechanisms underlying viral infection are complex, and include multifactorial processes mediated by interactions between viruses and the host immune system. While acute management of viral infection has been a key focus in recent years, emphasis on optimal function of the immune system and preventive strategies is just as crucial. Helping clients manage their immune health while living in a viral world, has never been as important as now. During this masterclass, Naturopath Lisa Costa Bir will examine the factors that contribute to an individuals’ immune “fitness” and why some people are more susceptible to viral infection than others. Modifiable factors that may influence severity of viral infection, viral reactivation and the psychoneuroimmunity (PNI) of preventive strategies will be explored. A key focus of this educational webinar will be providing evidenced based strategies to reduce the impact of acute viral infections and help sustain optimal immune health. LEARNING OUTCOMES - Understand the factors that contribute to impaired immune fitness and viral spread - Explore the concept of PNI and learn psychosocial interventions that can be used to modulate neuro-immune responses, increasing resilience to viral infection - Apply clinically relevant evidence-based diet, nutritional, herbal and lifestyle strategies to support prevention, management, treatment, and recovery from acute viral infection * The content of Clinical Mastery is intended to provide high level information for healthcare professionals and may not include all relevant information in relation to medications/drug interactions/product ingredients. Specific and tailored advice is required for each patient.

  • Clinical Mastery - Rewinding Viral Reactivation ( 2 x 60 minute sessions) - 2022

Session 1 Rewinding reactivation – The curious complexity and interplay of concomitant infections Some specific infections evade normal immunological tolerance and are unique in their replication, host control, and reactivation potential. The group of viral infections (e.g. CMV and EBV) – specifically within the herpesviridae family - are the most cryptic and unique infections that tend to underpin chronic immune complexities in all systems. There are more than 130 known herpesviruses and more than 90% of adults are infected with at least one HHSV-1 to HHSV-5 and many strains endemic in humans. The infection is incorporated into the DNA of its host thus changing their health trajectory indefinitely. Numerous sub-groups have been classified and tissue preference of one type is crossing over into other tissue types in surprising ways. As clinicians we need to evolve our treatment and assessment of these infections beyond usual immune support and address the complexity with holistic, directive, and strategic measures for the health of our patients now and into the future. Presented by: Leah Hechtman, PhD (Candidate), MSciMed (RHHG), BHSc (Naturopathy), ND, FNHAA Session 2 Effective treatment strategies for viral reactivation Naturopathic Educators, Victoria Caswell and Natalie Koshka will translate the research highlights and patient management insights from Session 1: Rewinding reactivation – The curious complexity and interplay of concomitant infections presented by Leah Hechtman into actionable insights that you can effortlessly integrate into your clinical practice. Learning objectives: • Understand the complexity of the herpesviridae family pathologically, clinically, and epidemiologically • Identify the key strategies for correct diagnosis and assessment of the patient both short term and long term • Formulate and strategize a sequential treatment plan for active, latent, and reactivated infections • Understand the interplay between infections and develop structured methodology for supportive treatment Presented By: Victoria Caswell & Natalie Koshka CPD information: ANTA/ATMS/CMA/NHAA – Each session is 1 hour of learning. * The content of Clinical Mastery is intended to provide high level information for healthcare professionals and may not include all relevant information in relation to medications/drug interactions/product ingredients. • Clinical Mastery – Life After SIBO (2 x 60-minute sessions) – 2022

Session 1 SIBO: Understanding Causes to Prevent Relapse SIBO is a common condition where gram negative bacteria, normally found in the colon, have overgrown into the small intestine. Not all patients will have the same causative factors for developing SIBO and not all patients will respond to treatment in the same way – the challenge for us as Practitioners is understanding how best to support our patients to effectively address SIBO. A healthy body is able to prevent and clear small intestinal bacterial overgrowth through different mechanisms. By understanding the breakdown or deficiency of these protective mechanisms, you will be able to dive deeper into addressing the underlying causes that can entrench chronic SIBO or relapsing SIBO. Session 2 Patient Management Strategies to Prevent SIBO Relapse Naturopathic Educators, Victoria Caswell and Sarah Clarke, will translate the research highlights and patient management insights from Session 1: SIBO: Understanding Causes to Prevent Relapse presented by Dr Nirala Jacobi into actionable insights that you can effortlessly integrate into your clinical practice. This masterclass will draw on real-life clinical case studies to ensure you return to your clinic with greater confidence in managing patients with SIBO. Learning objectives: • Uncover the different drivers that cause relapsing and chronic SIBO, • Explore clinically validated testing methods that can aid in diagnosis and patient management, • Identify patients at risk of relapse, • Learn appropriate treatment considerations for different SIBO causes. CPD information: ANTA/ATMS/CMA/NHAA – Each session is 1 hour of learning. • Inflamed Mood, Depleted Mind - Amie Skilton - 2020

A scientific and integrated approach to mental health Mood disorders significantly reduce an individual''s quality of life and may result in potentially devastating consequences. These conditions are incredibly common, yet effective medical treatments for a majority of sufferers still elude us. Over the last decade, research has revealed these ailments as true physiological and biochemical illnesses. Thus, correction of these internal imbalances through better lifestyle, diet and supplementation are emerging as equally important as counselling. We now understand that growth factors, including brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) exist in areas of the brain such as the hippocampus and promote neuronal cell survival and neurogenesis. Studies demonstrate a significant reduction of BDNF and hippocampal size in patients with major depressive disorder. Increasing these growth factors can lead to improved symptoms. Numerous stressors are known to compromise BDNF expression, whilst s
