Clinical Mastery – Rebuilding Patients After Cancer Treatment (2 x 60-minute sessions) – 2022

Clinical Mastery – Rebuilding Patients After Cancer Treatment (2 x 60-minute sessions) – 2022

Session 1 Rebuilding Patients After Cancer Treatment

Many cancer survivors will experience late and long-term side effects as a result of their treatment and/or their cancer. Natural and integrated medicine practitioners can play an essential role in the recovery and post-treatment of people who have completed cancer treatment.

Most research focuses on what complementary medicines can be used during cancer treatment to minimise treatment side effects, increase treatment efficacy and quality of life. However, more focus is now being directed to post cancer treatment care. Survivorship plans and the discussion of post treatment complications is increasing exponentially as the number of cancer survivors rise.

People feel that they should be back to ‘normal’ as soon as they finish their cancer treatment, but their ‘new normal’ needs our support. It is important to rationalise your treatment approach based on individual patient needs, status, condition, and situation as patient-centred care is paramount.

This 75-minute session focuses on the evidence-based approaches which assist people who have completed cancer treatment by covering the effective physical, emotional, psychological, psychosocial and lifestyle treatment options available for patient-led care and how to implement them.

During the session Dr Schloss covers:
• COMMON ISSUES - occurring after cancer treatment and the importance of knowing the type of cancer, their treatment specifics, and associated effects.
• EVIDENCE-BASED STRATEGIES - to help reduce fatigue, reduce inflammation, support immune function and DNA repair.
• FACTS ABOUT FOOD – specific to their type of cancer, including plant-based diets, the fatigue reduction diet, folate, and fats.
• GUT REPAIR -. Review new information about the role of probiotics and the influence of their microbiome.
• DETOXIFICATION – dos and don’ts
• TESTING – to assess the microbiome, metabolic pathways and novel testing with the potential to pick up early cancer development.

• UTILISES TESTING – to assess gut health, metabolic state, neurotransmitter abnormalities, citric acid cycle abnormalities, Co Q10 sufficiency, nutritional insufficiencies, and mitochondrial health.
• PROVDES TREATMENT STRATEGIES - suitable for breast cancer survivors post chemotherapy and radiation treatment, and which address the presenting symptoms.
• GIFTS MULTIPLE CLINICAL PEARLS – derived from her extensive clinical experience and research, including practical tips to assist with common side effects experienced during chemotherapy and radiation.

This online 75-minute masterclass is founded on a real-life clinical case study to ensure you return to your clinic with greater confidence supporting patients after cancer treatment. 15 minutes of the session is dedicated to Q+A.
