BioCeuticals supported clinical trial for healthy mood management receives national media coverage

BioCeuticals is supporting a new University of Melbourne and University of Queensland study, which is looking at the role of nutrient-based supplements in healthy mood maintenance.

The current eight-week NHMRC funded study is testing a combination of nutrients with individual evidence as mood-elevators (including S-adenosylmethionine, folic acid, omega-3, zinc and co-factors).

The aim of the study is to uncover and confirm the role that these nutrients may play in supporting key neurobiological pathways and providing assistance in healthy mood management.

Under the direction of lead researcher, Dr Jerome Sarris, the trial has started on a positive note, steadily recruiting participants at both the Melbourne and Brisbane sites.

The recently commenced study is recruiting adults in Victoria and South Eastern Queensland with mood disorders who have been non-responsive to specific ongoing treatment.

“If a positive outcome is achieved, this will have a significant impact on clinical practice,“ said Dr Sarris.

Recent national media interest in the clinical trial has received a very positive response and has seen an increase in enquiries into the study. Media exposure will drive increasing interest into the use of nutraceuticals to maintain healthy mood as well as drive participants to the study. Ensuring success in recruiting adequate numbers for the trial to obtain a large enough same size to ensure statistical power.

This is an important large scale clinic trial exploring the area of health and well-being that may effect individuals at various life stages.

The clinical study is currently being conducted at The Melbourne Clinic in Melbourne and The Royal Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Herston, Brisbane.
