Avanti Pro Racing Team Cyclist Scott Law has credited talent, mental strength, training and nutrition for helping him achieve his gold medal win at the Oceania Track Cycling Championships in Adelaide.

Scott claimed the Oceania Omnium title after leading the race early and finishing with 225 points, ahead of his brother Jackson Law (205pts), and New Zealand’s Aaron Gate (196pts).

“It was a great feeling, winning is always a great feeling to me. I went into the Oceania Track Cycling Championships with high hopes of a good result and I definitely achieved all the goals that I set myself,” says Scott.

“The Omnium, the race that I won, is a very complex race. It’s the decathlon of cycling with six events over two days; a mix of sprint and endurance events in which you score points on your placing in each event. The person with the highest points wins. The aim of the race is to be the most consistence rider and be well placed in all events. It was a tight race between myself, my brother Jackson and a former world champion in the Omnium from New Zealand; we all had some ups and downs throughout the two days but I came away with three wins and three second places which kept me in first place overall from start to finish.”

Scott, who started cycling in 2002, said training and a healthy diet were paramount to achieving his cycling goals.

“Nutrition and supplements are a very important to me both on and off the bike because they help me get the most out of my body and to perform at the highest level. The supplements that have given me the most out of my performances are BioCeuticals Ubiquinol BioActive, UltraClean EPA/DHA Plus and Ultra Muscleze. I have noticed a massive improvement in all walks of life,” says Scott.

After turning professional in 2011, Scott upped the intensity of his training routine but still believes “you should have fun while riding or racing because it’s not worth doing unless you enjoy what your doing.”

“I believe that what makes a successful cyclist is the “one percenters”. Most cyclist either have the talent to ride well or have the mental strength to push themselves to ride well but if you can put both of these things together as well as having a well structured training program, a healthy diet and using the proper equipment then you will be well on your way to becoming a successful cyclist,” said Scott.

Next on Scott’s agenda is to be a part of the Australian national track team going to the 2015 UCI Track World Championships to be held in France. He hopes to come home with gold and the rainbow stripes of World Champion.

“My goal for my cycling career is to be a part of the World Tour, racing all over the world and living out every young cyclist’s dream. Also my goals off the bike are to put back into the sport to help the younger generation improve as both cyclists and good all round people,” says Scott.
