What are chondroprotectors?

Chondroprotectors are substances of natural origin that act to protect the joint. This pharmacological group encompasses the drugs targeted to preserving the integrity of joints, and therefore to slowing the progression of osteoarthritis. The main chondroprotectors are chondroitin sulfate, glucosamine and hyaluronic acid.

What about the safety of the medications for osteoarthritis?

  • Analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs: they may entail safety problems (gastro-intestinal, cardiovascular, liver and kidney) and have interaction problems with other medicines.
  • Chondroprotectors: as they are substances of natural origin, they are very safe and they do not have side effects. Additionally, they are not metabolized in the same way that other drugs and therefore cannot interact with them.

Can I take them chronically?

Because of their side effects and interactions, analgesic and anti-inflammatory drugs might not be recommended as chronic treatments. Chondroprotectors are the better option for a chronic treatment due to their excellent safety profile, with no side effects and no interactions with other drugs.

What is chondroitin sulfate?

Chondroitin sulfate is a biological molecule.

It is one of the most important structural components of most connective tissues of the body such as cartilage, skin, blood vessels, as well as ligaments and tendons.

Chondroitin sulfate can be obtained by a process of extraction and purification from animal cartilage.

It is being used as a medicinal substance for the treatment of osteoarthritis and other joint conditions.

What is CS b-Bioactive

CS b-Bioactive® is  Bioiberica's chondroitin sulfate,  the most researched brand of chondroitin sulfate on the market.

Has CS b-Bioactive® been tested in clinical trials?

CS b-Bioactive ® has been tested in 20 randomized clinical trials involving more than 4.000 patients.

The results of these clinical trials demonstrate that CS b-Bioactive ® reduces joint pain and improves mobility. It can also slow down the progression of osteoarthritis and recent studies suggest that it reduces the need for knee prosthesis implants.

How long does it take to show its effect?

CS b-Bioactive® is characterized by a slow acting set of action. It normally takes 2-3 weeks to show its effect.

What is the difference between CS b-Bioactive and the rest of chondroitin sulfates?

Different manufacturing processes and different sources of biological starting material can give rise to chondroitin sulfate molecules with very different chemical-structural properties.

The great variability that exists between different chondroitin sulfate molecules can affect the efficacy of the end product.

Similarly, this variability can also affect the safety of the end product and may even have negative effects on the joint, such as inflammation, and cause allergic reactions in the organism, or have other more serious safety problems.

CS b-Bioactive is being manufactured using the highest quality raw materials, which, together with an specific manufacturing method, guarantees the quality and the consistency of the molecule.
