Event Details

SIBO and Gastrointestinal Parasites
A Clinical Perspective on Treatment and Prevention

In this clinically-focussed workshop, gastrointestinal expert Alessandra Edwards will share with you the latest research and therapeutic approach to diagnose and treat small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and parasites such as Blastocystis hominis and Dientamoeba fragilis.
Alessandra will share a new perspective on the treatment of gastrointestinal infections that will focus on the restoration of the biomechanics involved in healthy digestion, rehabilitation of the gut microbiome and ecosystem, as well as addressing a malfunctioning gut/brain axis. This seminar will challenge the traditional therapeutic approach of weed, seed, feed for gastrointestinal infections in line with novel research into the microbiome and its functions.
You will learn how toxic microbial metabolites are affecting your treatment outcomes, why carbohydrate restrictive diets are detrimental in the long term and why antibiotic and antimicrobial therapies have a high failure rate for both SIBO and gastrointestinal infections. Alessandra will also share her therapeutic approach for complex, highly sensitive patients who present with multiple intolerances including salicylate, amine and histamine and who usually cannot tolerate nutritional interventions.
